California Governor Gavin Newsom will deliver his annual State of the State address in Sacramento on Tuesday, and he deliver the speech to an audience of state lawmakers for the first time in two years.
Last year’s speech focused primarily on the pandemic. Newsom delivered it to an empty Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles as the state’s vaccination campaign gathered momentum.
The year before, homelessness was the main issue. This year’s speech will likely address both.
A recent UC Berkeley poll showed only 47% of Californians approve of Newsom’s work performance, with 66% saying he does a poor job of homelessness. That’s a double-digit increase from two years ago.
Cap Radio will broadcast the governor’s address live and provide analysis beginning at 5 p.m.
