On February 6 this year, Her Majesty The Queen, Head of State of New Zealand, became the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Kingdoms and the Commonwealth.
On June 1, the Governor General, the Right Honorable Dame Cindy Kiro, accompanied by Dr Richard Davies, will travel to the United Kingdom to represent New Zealand at a series of official events attended by the Queen to commemorate this unprecedented anniversary. Dame Cindy Kiro looks forward to joining other members of the Royal Family, Commonwealth Governors General and other dignitaries in celebrating Her Majesty’s life of public service. Their Excellencies will return to New Zealand on June 8.
Their Excellencies will attend the following commemorative events and meet other Governors General while in London:
- June 3: Thanksgiving Service at Saint Paul’s Cathedral
- June 4: Jubilee concert “Platinum at the Palace”
- June 5: Platinum Jubilee Pageant attended by a 42-man New Zealand contingent drawn from the New Zealand Army, Royal New Zealand Navy and Royal New Zealand Air Force.
