Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and his wife Mary Bainimarama will officially welcome and receive Commonwealth of Australia Governor General David Hurley and his wife Linda Hurley tonight.

The last visit by a Governor General from the Commonwealth of Australia was in 1993.

A statement on the Fijian government’s Facebook page says the state visit reinforces Fiji’s and Australia’s commitment to regional solidarity and will open up new opportunities for engagements in strategic cooperation in the areas of equities. climate and ocean, disaster resilience, economic recovery, defense and security, and socio-economic development, among others.

The state visit will also include programs in the North Division, with an official opening of the Maramarua District School Kindergarten and a delegation led by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere to welcome the Governor General for an official visit to the friendly north.

Ratu Wiliame said Fiji is proud of this historic visit and is delighted to welcome the Governor General and his wife to Fiji.

He says this collaboration signifies the strong friendship and bilateral relationship between our two nations, which has continued to grow stronger over the years.

The President adds that the visit to Vanua Levu is exciting for the people of Vanua Levu as they will witness and participate in one of the first state visits to the Northern Division.
