September 8, 2022 | Austin, Texas | Press release

Governor Greg Abbott today issued a statement on the gang shootings in Uvalde and the manhunt for suspects:

“I was outraged to learn that gang violence endangered the community of Uvalde and innocent Texans tonight. I immediately called Mayor McLaughlin and County Judge Mitchell to offer all support and state resources as law enforcement hunts down gang members After speaking with the mayor and county judge about the immediate need for increased law enforcement support, I have ordered the Ministry of Public Security to conduct patrol operations in gang hotspots, send six units of additional DPS soldiers to work around the clock, and begin coordinating an anti-gang effort with the city. Along with the Uvalde Police Department and the Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office, the DPS is also deploying Special Constables to target the five gangs operating in Uvalde Thanks to all local and state law enforcement and first responders speakers who are quickly intervened to protect their fellow Texans. Gang violence has no place here in Texas, and we’re going to bring down the full force of justice on these heinous criminals.
