The Ogun State Police Command has set up a political campaign and assembly monitoring team to prevent the breakdown of law and order during the election period.

State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Lanre Bankole, who made this known to Abeokuta during a conference for senior police officers, said the police would protect all places of political campaigning and gatherings .

While advising all political parties to abide by the election law, the commissioner stressed the need for politicians to refrain from delivering hate speech that could raise the political temperature in the state.

Declaring the conference open, Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun called on law enforcement authorities to always engage politicians on the need to follow the rules.

The governor urged senior police officers to come up with modalities and strategies to nip all forms of crime in the bud and curb violence ahead of the 2023 general election.

Regarding the recent fire at the Abeokuta South office of the Independent National Election Commission, Governor Abiodun said he had mandated the Commissioner of Police to ensure that all those responsible for the incident were arrested and prosecuted.
