Latest live news, January 2, 2022: A few days before the UP Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today lay the foundation stone for Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut.

The university will be established in the villages of Salawa and Kaili in the town of Sardhana in Meerut at an estimated cost of around Rs 700 crore.

One of the prime areas of interest of the Prime Minister is to instill sports culture and build world-class sports infrastructure in all regions of the country, and the establishment of this university in Meerut will be a major step towards achieving that vision, he said.

The sports university will be equipped with modern and state-of-the-art sports infrastructure, including synthetic hockey and football fields, a basketball, volleyball, handball and kabaddi court, a tennis court. lawn tennis, a gym, a synthetic running stadium, a swimming pool, a multi-purpose hall and a velodrome.

It will also house facilities for shooting, squash, gymnastics, weight lifting, archery, canoeing and kayaking, among others.

Unjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Saturday threatened to organize a “dharna” against Governor Banwarilal Purohit for refusing his assent to a bill to regularize 36,000 contract workers.

Channi also accused Purohit of hesitating to approve the bill under pressure from the BJP.

The state assembly adopted last November the “Punjab Protection and Regularization of Contractual Employees Bill-2021” to regularize 36,000 employees working under contract or on an ad hoc, temporary or daily basis in various government departments.

“But the governor shut down the file (relating to the bill) for political reasons,” Channi said, addressing the media here for reviewing the 100 days of his regime.
