India reported 18,257 new cases of Covid-19 on Sunday, bringing its total to 43,622,651. With 42 new deaths from coronavirus infection, the national toll has now reached 525,428. The number of recovered cases of Covid -19 in India now stands at 42,968,533 after 14,553 people were cured of the disease on Sunday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sacked Kyiv’s chief envoy to India and four other countries on Saturday, without giving a reason, the presidential website said. Zelenskyy announced the dismissal of Ukrainian ambassadors to India, Germany, the Czech Republic, Norway and Hungary.
After months of protests against the Sri Lankan government amid an economic crisis, Speaker of Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said on Saturday that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa would announce on Wednesday. It came after protesters set fire to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Saturday and broke into Rajapaksa’s official residence in Colombo. Rajapaksa, who had faced calls to resign since March, was evicted from his residence on Friday ahead of protests on Saturday. Wickremesinghe has also already expressed his willingness to resign.
RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said the price situation would gradually improve in the second half of the current fiscal year, adding that the central bank would continue to take monetary measures to anchor inflation in to achieve strong and sustainable growth. “Overall, at this point, with the supply outlook looking favorable and several high-frequency indicators pointing to the resilience of the recovery in the first quarter (April-June) of 2022-23, our current assessment is that inflation may ease. gradually in the second half of 2022-23, ruling out the chances of a hard landing in India,” Das said.
