Leading the main fitness event against the backdrop of the iconic Mysuru Palace, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent his greetings on the eighth International Day of Yoga on Tuesday. Thousands of people joined the Prime Minister at the mass yoga demonstration in the city, alongside Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Union Minister AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal, Royal Descendant of Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar and “Rajmata” Pramoda Devi.

Addressing the event, PM Modi said yoga is not just for individuals but brings peace to our nations and the world. “Yoga brings us peace. The peace of yoga is not just for individuals. Yoga brings peace to our society. Yoga brings peace to our nations and to the world. And yoga brings peace to our universe,” the prime minister said.

Here are the main quotes from PM Modi’s Yoga Day speech:

• Yoga is universe. This whole universe starts from our own body and soul. The universe starts from us. And, yoga makes us aware of all that is within us and builds a sense of awareness.

• Millions of people with inner peace will create an environment of world peace. This is how yoga can connect people and countries, and how yoga can become a problem solver for all of us.

•Yoga is a symbol of the universal aspiration to health and well-being. It is zero budget health insurance.

• Yoga is not only about ‘Rog Mukti’ but also about ‘Bhog Mukti’. Yoga can be our cultural ambassador. We can reach the world through this medium.

• Yoga is not about what you will get, but about what you can give up.

• Yoga is a philosophy of discipline and meditation which transforms the mind and makes the individual a better person in thought, action, knowledge and devotion.

• We are disconnected from ourselves right now. Therefore, Yoga helps us to reconnect with ourselves.

• Yoga embodies the unity of mind and body, thought and action, restraint and fulfilment, harmony between man and nature, and a holistic approach to mental and witty.

• Yoga guarantees well-being as well as physical fitness. It is not simply an exercise but a means of achieving peace through physical, mental and spiritual well-being.
International Yoga Day is a reflection of the greatest knowledge-based grassroots movement the world has ever seen.

• Yoga is a code for connecting people with life and reconnecting humanity with nature. It expands our limited sense of self, to see our families, societies, and humanity as extensions of ourselves.
