BATON ROUGE — Governor John Bel Edwards issued a statement Thursday saying Vice President Kamala Harris’ trip to Louisiana has been postponed due to developments in Ukraine.
Vice President Harris was scheduled to travel Friday to Sunset, La., with Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo to discuss the administration’s efforts to expand broadband Internet access.
Governor Edwards’ statement reads:
“The Vice President has delayed her trip to Louisiana, which is a wise and understandable decision given the situation with Ukraine. I pray for the President and the Vice President and their advisers and our military leaders at this time. , so that they can act with strength and determination in response to this escalating conflict. I look forward to welcoming him to our great State at a more appropriate time.
“I carry the Ukrainian people in my prayers and in my heart, because their security and their sovereignty are threatened. Ukrainians deserve to know peace and I hope all Louisianans will join me in praying for that peace to come quickly.
“No one knows exactly what the weeks and months ahead will bring, but I also pray for the members of our United States military and their families, who are always ready to stand up for freedom alongside our allies.”
