Police in Greater Chennai have arrested a woman after her pet seriously injured a nine-year-old girl by biting her in several places. Police say the victim resides in an apartment near Nolambur.

Police said the incident took place on December 28. “As the girl was walking inside the apartment complex, a dog belonging to another resident chased and attacked her. She was bitten all over her body. As soon as the neighbors noticed it, they chased the dog away and saved the girl. Her parents immediately took her to a nearby private hospital, ”said an official from the Nolambur police station.

Government Railway Police (GRP) on Tuesday arrested a railway worker and his wife for staging a robbery at Tiruvanmiyur station in Chennai and recovering Rs 1.32 lakh the couple stole from the booking counter Monday.

The incident came to light when on Monday morning, after standing in line to buy tickets for a long time, passengers were suspicious of their lack of presence and alerted the police. When the police broke the lock at the reservation counter, they found Teeka Ram, an employee at the counter, tied up. Later that day, CCTV footage of police rescuing Ram was shared widely on social media.

An 11-year-old boy who was shot in the head by a stray bullet from a shooting range on December 30 died Monday evening after failing to respond to medical attention.

Pugazhendhi was at his grandparents’ residence in Narathamalai, near Pudukkotai district, when he was hit by a bullet fired from a shooting range near the hamlet of Pasumalaipattai. Central Industrial Security Force personnel were reportedly undergoing training during the incident.
